1. Introduction

On behalf of mobile phone company Vodafone, Stappard Howes is looking for a suitable location for a new mobile phone mast in the West Horsell area. This will bring new services to local mobile phone users and is part of a programme to meet Government expectations that these new third generation services are available to at least 80% of the population by the end of 2007.
Whilst we only need one site in the area, we have looked at a range of different options, reviewed them for feasibility, and for visual impact.
Through this website, an innovative virtual reality model allows you to see each option from an infinite number of views, and includes sites we have considered but have been obliged to rule out, as well as those we are currently working on. You will also be able to look at the coverage plots (which show how a new mast will improve coverage), at any pre-application correspondence and, when lodged, the planning submission.

2. Location

The area we are looking at is centred around West Horsell and includes the Goldsworth Park Trading Estate and Horsell village centre.

3. Consulting with the community

Telecommunications systems are vital to our business and social lives but we recognise that it is essential that the masts that make our phones work are designed and sited to keep visual impact to a minimum.
In the normal course of events, consultation takes place with local ward and parish councillors, with council officers. Depending on the specific location of the site, Vodafone will also erect a voluntary site notice, notify other stakeholders and seek views and suggestions before a planning application or licence notification is submitted. This new tool builds on Vodafone’s best practice consultation methods, and whilst we are aware that not everyone has access to a computer, it will make these proposals available to a wider audience. Please note that conventional consultation activities will not be curtailed and information will sent by post on request.
Feedback is important to Vodafone and your views and suggestions will be carefully considered. Please use the feedback facility to make your views about our proposals and about the website itself known to us.
