| Parliamentary Technology Demonstration
Morning:
‘Technology and the Future of Public Services’
Hosted by the All Party Parliamentary Internet Group and The All Party Parliamentary Mobile Communications Group |
As Chairs of the All Party Parliamentary Internet Group and the All Party Parliamentary Mobile Communications Groups Derek Wyatt MP and Phil Willis MP are delighted host the first Parliamentary Technology Demonstration Morning. This pioneering event will examine the role that new technology should play in the provision of public services.
This technology morning brings together a number of companies who are leading the way in providing solutions to the public sector and bridging this gap with the public. Exhibiting will be a broad variety of companies, ranging from well know multi-nationals to local, British business and charities.
Derek Wyatt, MP for Sittingbourne and Sheppey and Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Internet Group said: “I am pleased that we will be hosting this ground breaking event in Parliament. One of the most effective ways to improve efficiency and value for money in the public sector is to use the solutions made available by new technology. This event provides an ideal opportunity to show policy makers what is on offer. Among the solutions that will be exhibited are the use of text message services to cut call centre costs, using locater systems to ensure the safety of NHS staff and an online planning programme to demonstrate to communities the benefits of new developments. These and many other solutions show how new technology can bring a definite and marked improvement to public sector services”.
Phil Willis MP, MP for Harrogate and Knaresborough and Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Mobile Communications Group: “The backing of Parliamentarians is important in leading the revolution of both ‘eGovernment’ and ‘mGovernment’ to rejuvenate the relationship between the citizen, representatives and providers. As the public become progressively more familiar with new technology, they will become increasingly disillusioned if the public sector does not meet their expectations and utilise this technology. This demonstration morning will bring to Westminster some of the best and most innovative new technologies to give Parliamentarians an opportunity to fully understand how they can be used to improve public services”.
